How to Make Your Soap Bars Last For Longer

Soap bars have been a household staple for centuries. They are such a simple solution to keeping us and our things clean. Some of our favourite soap bars have great benefits for skin conditions and keep their packaging to a minimal, saving waste from plastic bottles.

But have you ever noticed your soap bar in a puddle in your shower? Or maybe you’ve thought that it hasn’t be lasting long at all? Nothing is more frustrating than seeing your soap bar shrink away too quickly. Luckily, there are simple tricks to make your soap bars last longer, reducing waste and saving you money in the long run.

In this article, we'll look at five practical tips to keeping your soap bars lasting for longer. By following these guidelines, you can make the most of every single bar you purchase.

1 / Store Your Soap Bar Out of the Water

One of the main reasons soap bars disintegrate quickly is because they're left in a constant state of wetness.

To prevent this, always store your soap bar out of direct water flow. This means keeping it away from the shower's spray and avoid placing it directly on a wet surface or in a puddle of water.

2 / Use a Soap Dish

Instead of leaving your soap bar on the edge of the tub or shower, invest in a good soap dish. It’s really important to use a soap dish with proper drainage

A soap dish with raised ridges or holes allows water to drain away from the soap, ensuring the soap bar dried between uses. Keeping the soap bar as dry as possible is the key to extending its lifespan.

3 / Cut Your Soap Bar into Smaller Pieces

Another simple method to keep your soap bars lasting for longer is cutting them into smaller pieces. By doing this, you'll have part of the soap that stays completely dry and unused until you're ready to use it. Smaller pieces also make the soap easier to handle. This is single handled the easiest way to save soap. If you use a shampoo bar, try this tip here too. Trust me, it works!

You could even turn one piece of your soap bar into liquid soap, saving using a plastic bottle if you prefer liquid soap.

4 / Use Less Soap

We tend to use more soap than we actually need. A simple way to stop this is by using a  washcloth, loofah, or sponge to lather and apply the soap. These tools help distribute the soap evenly across your skin, so you can use less soap without sacrificing cleanliness. You can also get the added benefits of exfoliating your skin with a loofah while simultaneously cleaning.

5 / Combine Soap Ends into a Soap Saver

Don't let those tiny soap remnants go to waste! Instead of tossing them out, gather the smaller soap pieces and add them to a soap saver or a soap pouch. These handy accessories help you make the most of every piece, ensuring that not a single bit of soap goes unused. They work in a similar way to a loofah and will foam up with the soap ends inside. Genius!

Making your soap bars last longer is not only environmentally friendly but also cost-effective. By implementing these simple yet effective tips, you can enjoy your favourite soaps for an extended period, reduce waste, and save money.

Remember to store your soap bar out of direct water, use a soap dish, cut it into smaller pieces, apply less soap with a cloth or loofah, and combine soap ends into a soap saver. With these strategies, you'll enjoy longer-lasting suds and a more sustainable hygiene routine.

  • Thanks for the ideas. I keep soap bars dry by pressing a bottle top into the underside so that the bar is always proud of the surface and the air dried it out all round.
