What is a natural candle?

Natural candles are candles made from a natural wax like soy wax or coconut wax. Natural candles are made without paraffin wax which is both polluting for the environment as it comes from oil and can be bad to breathe in.

Why are soy wax candles better than paraffin for the environment?

Soy wax candles are natural, vegan friendly products. Paraffin on the other hand, is a by-product of petroleum production. This technically makes it vegan, but since it comes from oil, it’s also an incredibly polluting substance. To make things worse, the paraffin is often bleached with toxic substances and mixed with stearic acid, an animal based compound that hardens the candle and alters the colour and opacity of the wax. This means that a finished paraffin candle may still contain animal products. 

How are natural soy wax candles made?

Soy wax candles are vegan, eco friendly and natural, made from a plant based wax made from soybeans. The soybeans are harvested, cleaned, popped, de-hulled and made into a type of flake. The soy oil is extracted from these soybean flakes and hydrogenated. The fatty acid from the oil becomes saturated and turns solid at room temperature. Any leftovers are used as animal feed so natural soy wax candles are a perfect waste free alternative to paraffin wax candles.

Does soy wax burn more slowly?
